Recently, two Asante Kotoko players, AbdoelKarem Yagoub and Esmat Abdulhamid, reportedly absconded in the United States after traveling with the team for a friendly match against DC United. The team had arrived in Washington, D.C., for the ceremonial match, which was part of the Ghana Week DC 2024 festivities. After arriving, the two Sudanese players sneaked out of their hotel and were picked up by a vehicle, as revealed by CCTV footage. The players had earlier sought permission to exchange money, which was denied by team officials, raising suspicion about their intentions.
Asante Kotoko’s management expressed shock and disappointment at the incident, and efforts are underway to locate the players in collaboration with local authorities and the Ghanaian embassy in the U.S. The team's visit to the U.S. had already been complicated by visa issues, limiting the number of players who could make the trip
