Manchester United board have made contact with Sporting Lisbon head coach RÚBEN AMORÍM for the work of the head coach after sacking their previous coach Erik Ten Hang.
Rúben Amorim has been instrumental in transforming Sporting CP since taking over in March 2020. Leading the team in the 2020-2021 season, he guided Sporting to their first Primeira Liga title in 19 years, finishing with just one defeat and 20 clean sheets. That season, they maintained an impressive defensive record, conceding only 20 goals, the fewest in the league, and often capitalized on late goals to secure points.
Under Amorim, Sporting's style relies on a 3-4-3 formation with wing-backs pushing forward, maintaining high possession (around 60%) and executing a high press. This approach has yielded consistent results, including a League Cup win in 2022, and the development of players like Pedro Gonçalves, who scored 23 goals in 2020-2021, and center-back Gonçalo Inácio.
Amorim’s tactical flexibility and leadership have been pivotal in positioning Sporting as one of Portugal’s top teams, sparking interest from major European clubs due to his success and modern tactical style.
