Electric Nigeria: The Grid Story


On October 14, 2024, Nigeria experienced another national power grid collapse, marking the sixth time this year. The collapse happened around 6:48 PM, resulting in a nationwide blackout that affected millions of citizens. Power distribution companies like the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Abuja and Eko Electricity Distribution Companies confirmed the grid failure and the widespread power outages that followed. They assured the public that efforts are underway to restore electricity as quickly as possible.


Frequent grid collapses have been a persistent issue, with the power infrastructure showing signs of strain, particularly amid rising electricity tariffs. The grid has reportedly failed numerous times over the years, highlighting the need for significant reforms in Nigeria's energy sector
